MACKANDGOLD TAKE ME IN

You can practically see your own reflection off the shiny presence that is MACKandgold. Positioning herself somewhere between indie, funk and dance, this eclectic artist has given us the anthemic ‘Take Me In’. The track starts in a rather reserved flow of with a touching voicemail from Mack’s late father who passed away two years ago due to cancer. We can hear the phases of the musician’s coming to terms with the loss of her father, something that’s reflected in her statement: “Life has put me through hell, and this project has helped me find comfort in that discomfort and angst.” Reminiscent of pop goddess Sia, ‘Take Me In’ doesn’t directly relay feelings of discomfort and agnst, but instead they make their way through pleasant pop melodies, moments of raw production and MACKandgold’s expressive voice which can express tender thoughts before bursting into “sing a the top of your lungs” moments. We can’t get enough. - Hannah Thacker
